With outstanding support from RED, the Gates DEEP WEAPON upgrades are now available. Special thanks to Mikael Lubtchansky as well for insights on communicating with the DSMC² Platform.
Benefits:
- The DEEP WEAPON upgrade preserves your investment. No need to purchase a new housing.
- Once upgraded, DEEP WEAPON is compatible with *all* RED Epic camera models. Scarlet / Epic / Dragon (DSMC1 Platform) and Weapon / Raven / Scarlet-W (DSMC2 Platform)
- The upgrade includes a cabled interface between REDMOTE and Weapon / Raven / Scarlet-W for direct, wired camera control. Power is provided to the REDMOTE, too.
- RP5 (RED Pro 5” LCD) and RT7 (RED Touch LCD) are compatible. They are directly swappable between each other and amongst all supported cameras.
- All DEEP EPIC and DEEP DRAGON accessories are compatible with DEEP WEAPON.

What’s included in the Upgrade:
- Hardware. V-Lock plate, camera tray brackets, thumbscrews and right side lens controls are removed and replaced with versions that provide clearance to the Weapon camera and Base Expander module. A Power Control spacer is added
- LEMO Adapter. Mounted to the top of Weapon, Raven and Scarlet-W, the LEMO adapter provides a direct plug-in for your RP5 or RT7 external monitor.
- REDMOTE Tether. A Linkbox and cable harness provide direct wired connection between REDMOTE and DSMC2
- Audio patch cable. Extends the microphone, diver comm or hydrophone connection to the Base Expander.
- User 1/2 Control. This control is changed to access the User 1/2 buttons on the front of DSMC2. You can swap out the control head for use with DSMC1.
- Installation, functional and pressure checks by Gates technicians.

Other Details
- Remote Lens Control (RLC). If you have a servo driver (like the RED W.M.D.) installed between camera and battery plate, further modifications to your housing will be required. This includes items like Shell Extension, new V-Lock mount (with longer power cable), and re-mounted V-Lock plate. Contact Gates for more details.
- Switching between DSMC1 and DSMC2 platforms. The User 1/2 control head must be changed to support either platform. A snap-in spacer must also be added to the Power control. Both are user changeable.
- DEEP DRAGON will continue as a current Gates product, but will now be Weapon-ready. This means all the housing hardware changes to support DSMC2 will be included. At a later date should you require the housing to support DSMC2 platform, we need only ship you the remaining items (LEMO Adapter, REDMOTE Tether, Audio Patch Cable, and User 1/2 Control head).
DEEP WEAPON is now introduced officially as our flagship cinema housing for RED cameras. It will come from the factory with all upgrade parts installed and ready to accept the DSMC2 platform.
