As a marine biologist who has filmed for both research and entertainment purposes, I find Gates Housings to be of the highest quality in engineering, durability, and reliability. It is the perfect tool that allows me to properly capture not only the image, but also the emotion of that underwater moment. All the various components (tripod, monitor, controls, etc.) work seamlessly together melding a unit that operates flawlessly. Gates has, and continues to be, a quintessential instrument perfectly suited to be an extension of my mind's eye.

"I have taken my Gates HVX housing on a couple of thousand dives since I made the move to Gates and have never missed a filming opportunity in all that time. Whether working at sea on a liveaboard or enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime bucket-list diving location, I am 100% confident my camera will stay dry and with no electronics to fail, I will have full access to my camera controls. Even after a few nasty tumbles and 5 years exposed to the salty sea air, my housing is as functional now as the day I bought it. It's nice to know when the time comes to upgrade my system, there's only one website I will need to search."

”I've been diving and filming the wrecks and reefs around the UK for 7 years and I've only ever used one brand of housing for my video equipment, and that's Gates. I’ve had housings for the Sony PC105, Sony HC9 and Sony Z1 cameras I have trusted all of them to put up with the rigour of diving in the British Isles, especially when bouncing around on RIBs on the way to and from sites. The depth rating is, of course, unsurpassed in the industry. With the fool/diver-proof manual controls and all the extras Gates can supply (such as excellent optical ports, tripod and lights) I can't think of a reason I'd buy anything else!”

Our film RiverWebs required us to visually capture the dynamic underwater world of streams, including their tiny insect inhabitants. Getting effective underwater images in these challenging environments required the toughness, dependability, and port options of Gates housings. We were extremely satisfied with our housing, and very thankful for Gates uncompromising attention to detail and craftsmanship!

"After three years of using a Gates housing, I have absolutely no complaints. It's indestructible! I have grown to hate lugging it around, but the payoff is the huge lens. If you have a huge lens, you need to have a heavy housing. The heavy housing also has the distinct advantage over a lightweight one in being a more stable platform so that even bouncing around on the surface, the camera held below is relatively stable, essential in filming humpback whales from the surface."

"I have used a wide variety of underwater photography products made by Gates Underwater Products for more than 25 years. I suppose that is about as strong of an endorsement and high praise as a person who makes a living using the products can possibly give. Gates products are always well thought out, superbly crafted, and well supported. Thanks Elwyn, Ann and your gang!"

In my worldly travels to exotic and distant locations, I cannot afford to have a catastrophic failure. I just finished filming Great white Sharks in Guadalupe and the XL H1 housing was the perfect tool for the job. Well balanced and weighted it allow me a smooth shoot even when the cage was bouncing all over. Gates housings makes the impossible shots possible.

"Moving from DV to HDV couldn't have been easier with Gates. I was looking for a rugged, foolproof system that could handle the daily abuse dished out to it on tourist dive boats. The Gates Z1 stands up to that test and performs flawlessly, I'm very happy that I never took a chance".
